Welcome Back!!

Date: 20th Apr 2016 @ 1:34pm

Welcome back!! After a 2 week break from term time club we are already settled back into the swing of things and holiday club seems to be a dim and distant memory.  Holiday club was a bit of a tricky one with Easter being over before it began but children enjoyed a fortnight of movie based activities so we're kept busy throughout and were able to enjoy films on the big screen when the weather wasn't at it's best.  Popular activities included 'Minion Slime', 'Light Sabers', 'Lego Cross stitch', 'Paddington Cupcakes', 'Elsa Frozen Wands' and 'Monsters Inc Uni Pops' and we still have plenty of resources left to keep the movie madness going for the rest of the month.

When the weather allowed, children spent a lot of time playing outside, joining in with games of football and dodgeball. Some of the younger children especially enjoyed playing out after a heavy downpour of rain and did a tremendous job at moving a puddle (which filled half of the play ground) using cups, spades and watering cans so that they could get the scooters out without having to dodge the puddles!

One of the lovely things about holiday club this time was the mix of children that were with us. It wasn't one of our busiest clubs but, with several children joining us from other local schools, it was great to see new friendships develop and we were also lucky to be joined by s4yc staff from other settings who also throughly enjoyed their time at Woodlands and were impressed by the outstanding behaviour of the children in their care.

Both infants and juniors have spent the last week celebrating the Queen's 90th birthday. We have made paper chains, crowns, corgi puppets, birthday cards, flags etc and look forward to further birthday celebrations in May. Next week's activities will be loosely based around St Gerorge's day and his dragon so we are having a very patriotic couple of weeks before May begins!!

Infant sports clubs start again next week so make sure your children are signed up especially as Monday's reception/yr 1 football course with Mr Mills looks to be especially popular. Both courses run for 6 weeks but may run until mid-June due to various bank holidays and inset days.

Junior clubs continue to run as part of the school extre-curricular timetable so there are no specific s4yc after school sports clubs running alongside these.  However, as the weather continues to improve we do plan to run some sporting activities as part of after school club so watch this space!

As pre-school numbers within club continue to rise we are looking at using our pre-school room and outdoor area more frequently to ensure the little ones have a safe alternative to playing with the older infants on our busiest days.  We are in the process of designing the outdoor area and are currently in talks with a landscaper to come and make it 'child friendly' but, in the meantime, if you have any outdoor toys such as sand trays, scooters, bats and balls etc that you no longer have any use for we would be more than happy to take them off your hands. Saying that, the children were more than happy to play in a selection of cardboard boxes this week so it seems that they are easily pleased!! We are also looking at ways to ustilise the railings so are looking for pots and pans (to make a musical area), cooking utensils (for our mud kitchen), wellies (to put plants in - naturally!!??) and any other colourful outdoor decorations that will help make the outdoor space a more enjoyable and inspirational place to be.

Eventhough we have only just come back after the Easter Holiday, Whit is just a few weeks away so make sure to book your holiday club places places to avoid disappointment.  Booking forms will be going out with the May invoices but, if you wish to download a form from our website, just click on the following link: http://www.s4yc.co.uk/serve_file/100113

You will notice that we are not running a club on the Monday (due to the bank holiday) but will be open the following Monday (6th June) which is an inset day.  The theme we are following is 'I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here' so there will be bushtucker trials a plenty and, weather permitting, plenty of opportunities for den building and outdoor play.
