May 9th - 13th 2016

Date: 13th May 2016 @ 6:45am

On the whole it has been another beautifully sunny week (with some much needed down pours in between) so I think I have little choice but to remind parents to start sending their children into club with sun hats and sun cream (and hope that I havent spoken too soon!!)  Again, we have spent a lot of time outdoors and there seems to be very little shade on both the junior and infant play grounds during after school and, even though we bring the children in regularly to cool them down, it is amazing how quickly the sun catches us out so hats and cream are a must!.

Infants and juniors have adapted well to merging for breakfast clubs this week although the sheer volume of children together in one place always leaves us looking forward to going back to normality. The children should all be congratulated for their behaviour in these 'not so ideal' situations and it was lovely to see the juniors being so mindful of the little ones whilst they played.

We are now getting use to utilising our infant 'back room' where children enjoy continuous role play. The room, with it's outdoor space, is rapidly taking over from the computer room as the children's favourite place to play, giving everyone a much welcome break from technology!!

The infants are continuing to enjoy some new additions to their outdoor play area with this week seeing the arrival of a new water tray (which couldn't have arrived at a better time) and we anticipate that it will be joined by a sand tray and a number if chalk boards over the next week or two.

The main highlight of the week for the infants was the discovery that several little bags of tiny crystals could turn into a giant tub of marble sized jelly orbs over night. Once the initial fun of dunking their hands in the orbs to feel how squishy they were was over, children had a great time throwing and then chasing the orbs across the play ground ... not quite what I had in mind but hugely enjoyable all the same (for children and staff alike!!)

Juniors have had a busy week both indoors and out. Not only have they enjoyed making cakes and creating some giant bubble paint masterpieces but they have also explored a number of new summer sports on the field and taken part in some fantastic den building using the parachute and a number of poles to create some much needed shade in what would otherwise have been a bit of a sun trap on the playground.

The juniors seem to be going from strength to strength and the children's imagination and resourcefulness appears to be 'solar powered' with the sunshine installing in them a new lease of life.  Let's just hope that this beautiful weather continues and that junior staff can keep up with the children's lovely ideas and demands as Summer progresses!!
