June 13th - 17th 2016

Date: 17th Jun 2016 @ 6:33am

After a week of being too hot, worrying about our plants drying out and looking for spare hats to keep the children safe from the sun we have spent much if this week indoors, keeping out of the rain and the rather large puddles and can't wait to be complaining about the heat again!! We managed to squeeze in our usual Monday football session before the weather got the better of us, Tuesday's football children joining us in club for a spot of after school weather watching.  Luckily our new Friday infant dance session is based indoors so hopefully shouldn't be let down by the constant rain that doesn't seem to be going anywhere fast!!

'watching the rain!!'

Despite the rain, thunder, flooding and 'organised chaos' come home time, the rain hasn't dampened our spirits at S4YC and we have managed to achieve a lot on both infant and junior sites.  We had great fun finishing off some of our holiday club 'jungle themed' arts and crafts whilst the sun still shone last week, taking many of the activities and resources (including a number of cardboard boxes) outside with us and letting our imagination run wild.  We were also able to continue with the Queen's 90th birthday celebrations this week making puppets, designing stamps, and creating some royal inspired jewellery.

This week we have also enjoyed making a number of summer floral inspired crafts including cards and sunflower bracelets, not to mention watching the England match on the big screen whilst the more creative of us made superhero Father's Day cards.

With junior children becoming more independent and starting to make their own way home from school, the junior after school club is starting to slow down a bit as the end of the school year gets ever closer.  This has meant that children in club have been able to take part in some quieter activities indoors, including spending time sorting through their Euro football sticker books and updating the football scores on the board, lego, board games and a number of craft activities, whilst the more energetic ones have been joining in with sport clubs on the big field (weather permitting!)  The juniors started the week with a spot of cake decorating and have continued to create a variety of beaded bracelets and necklaces which has proven to be a big hit with the children.  They have also invested some time in making Father's day cards ready for the weekend.  Some of the older children enjoyed helping staff in compiling a number of photo collages to display in club, showing a selection of activities they had taken part in over the last few weeks.

Holiday club forms have been making there way home with the children this week and are already on there way back to me so make sure you get your places booked early to take full advantage of the early booking prices.  Our 'Cultural Olympiad' will start in Ancient Greece and visit all the host cities throughout the holiday ending in Rio, so activities promise to be extremely varied as we travel from one country to the next.  There will also be a number of varied sporting activities going on throughout the Summer including our own 'mini olympics'.  Since the booking forms went to print there has been an additional inset day added to the school holiday so we can confirm that we will be running holiday club on both 5th and 6th of September.  Follow the link to download a booking form:
