Hello March!

Date: 7th Mar 2019 @ 8:27pm

I can't believe a whole month has passed since our last blog and my goodness a lot has happened since then!! We have celebrated Chinese New Year with Chinese food (even if Sainsburys did substitute our spring rolls for garlic mushrooms!) and got to try a number of different flavours including noodles, rice, prawn crackers, sweet chili sauce, sea weed and, after a last-minute supermarket dash, spring rolls (thank you Morrisons!!)

Children also made lanterns, zodiac stick puppets, dragon puppets and Year of the Pig greeting cards.

No sooner than Chinese New Year was over, and we were busy exploring all things ‘Love and Friendship’. We made cards, Cupid’s arrows and love birds, explored the meaning of ‘Love and Friendship’ through writing and discussion and even continued the valentine theme through our snack with special heart-filled muffins!!

Children were also extremely lucky to make some valentine cookies from scratch and, after a lot of preparation, the results couldn’t have been better (thank you Jade).  We look forward to more baking opportunities like this in the future.

February half term was run from Whitby Heath and activities were based on ‘The Wild West’.  Children not only had a fantastic time making new friends and taking part in numerous Wild West arts and crafts including ‘Dancing Cowboys’, ‘Tepee Crafts’, ‘Feathered Headdresses’ and ‘Dancing Cowboys’ to name but a few, but children were also extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to take part in our new Sports Course which explored new and zany sports including ‘Extreme Frisbee’, ‘Nerf Wars’ and ‘Lacrosse’.

We are really looking forward to April holiday club where we will be back at Woodlands for the full two weeks and, once again, will be joined by Coach Mark who will be running a week of sport that all children will have access to. It will come as no surprise to hear that the holiday club theme is based on ‘Springtime/Easter’ and  there promises to be activities and chocolate a plenty … who can complain about that?!

If you book your places before 14th March you will automatically receive a 25% discount so don’t hang around … get booking now!!

After a week off, we continued our friendship theme into the new half term, this time taking our activities outside into the sunshine.  We are pleased to say that the beautiful weather brought with it a hugely successful start to the new football course and gymnastics has been equally popular.

March has already seen children celebrate St David’s day where we enjoyed making Welsh dragon masks and little Welsh dolls (although you would be forgiven for thinking some bore a striking resemblance to Little Red Riding Hood!) ...

... on Tuesday children created Mardi Gras masks before getting incredibly sticky eating pancakes ...

... then we rounded up the week with a fabulous World Book Day where the children had an enjoyable day being dressing up as numerous characters ranging from Harry Potter and Gangster Granny to Postman Pat and the Gruffalo.  Even the staff went that extra mile with myself channelling my inner Mildred Hubble (after looks of disgust when I may have mentioned to the children that I wouldn’t be dressing up this year – nothing like a hall full of disgruntled children to persuade you to get the sewing machine out and whip up a costume!!)
